ALL TRYOUT SESSIONS WILL BE HELD AT FERNBROOK ATHLETIC FIELDS

U8–U19 players must attend tryouts for their current grade level. Players interested in playing up must complete the Play Up Request form during tryout registration and receive approval from MPB staff (not coaches). If approved, they are also required to attend the tryout for the older age group. The detailed policy can be viewed here (en español).

Effective with the 2026-27 soccer season, US Club Soccer (TCSL’s sanctioning partner), in addition to other youth soccer organizations, have decided to switch to a school-year based age group system. You can find more details regarding this change on TCSL’s website. Below is the Age Group Matrix for the 2026-2027 Season.

FAQ

  • A:  YES.  All players MUST register online for Tryouts in advance, regardless of attendance at Tryouts. You will not be considered for placement on a team if you are not registered. There is a section in the registration where you can enter details if you will miss tryouts.

  • For new players, attendance at a minimum of one tryout session is required to be considered for team placement. Attending both sessions is strongly encouraged, as it gives our coaching staff the best opportunity to evaluate each player. 

    Returning players may be placed based off the evaluation of their current coach. If a returning player is unable to attend any tryout sessions, placement decisions may be made based on the player's previous performance and team needs, with approval from MapleBrook Soccer Club staff.  

  • A:  Players who are injured and unable to participate in Tryouts must register for Tryouts and indicate a medical reason for non-participation.

  • Our tryouts are designed to evaluate each player's physical, technical, and tactical abilities in a positive, age-appropriate environment. The majority of the evaluation will take place through game-like activities, including small-, medium-, and full-sided games that allow players to demonstrate their skills, decision-making, and understanding of the game in realistic soccer situations.

  • A:  All players will be given a tryout shirt with a unique number, which must be worn to every tryout session.

    Do not wear club uniforms or any clothing showing team affiliation.

  • A: Plenty of water, sunscreen, cleats, shin guards, and an inflated soccer ball of the appropriate size (U9-U12: size 4 / U13 and up: size 5).

  • A:  All players should attend the tryout session of their respective birth year. Opportunities for players to compete in an older age group will be decided by MPB Staff.

  • A:  Not unless approved by MPB Staff in advance of completing season registration. The 2026/2027 teams are a full year commitment. The Fall teams are formed after the 2026 Tryouts from players registered for the 2026/2027 season. 

  • A: If you are eligible for HS soccer you are not required to play Fall soccer. Otherwise, Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer are required.

  • A: While every effort is made to place each player on a Competitive team, TCSL has roster size restrictions, and the number of players trying out at an age group may prevent placement of every player. All players must be evaluated for placement on a team.

  • A:  Goalkeeper Tryouts will vary by age group.

    Goalkeepers should attend their own age group tryout sessions, as well as the goalkeeper tryout session.
